Dear West Families,

Welcome to a new year at DeSoto West Middle School! We are excited to welcome our scholars back and begin a year grounded in purpose, partnership, and high expectations.

Our Westside Energy Train is ready to move forward—together. Arrive early

Be at the district-designated stop at least 10 minutes before the posted time.

Arrival & dismissal

Know where to go.

Bus riders enter at the top stairs. Car riders use the gym-side arrival area, where the SRO will direct traffic. Please follow staff directions and keep lanes moving.

The DeSoto ISD Student Code of Conduct explains scholar responsibilities, behavioral expectations, disciplinary procedures, personal communication device rules, and family rights. Please review it with your scholar.

Ready for day one

West family expectations.

Clear expectations protect learning time and help every scholar arrive ready to succeed.

Texas HB 1481

School day = device-free.

Texas law requires public schools to prohibit student use of personal communication devices on school property during the school day. At West, personal devices must be turned off and properly stored.

  • Cell phones
  • Smartwatches and smart glasses
  • Earbuds and headphones
  • Tablets and gaming devices are prohibited from campus

District-issued instructional devices are not included. Documented IEP/504, medical, health, and safety exceptions apply.

DeSoto ISD standards

Dress ready to learn.

Tops

Solid green, gold, black, white, or gray collared polo/button-up; chest logo 1 inch or smaller.

Bottoms

Solid black, khaki, gray, navy, or olive pants, shorts, capris, skirts, or jumpers. Length and fit rules apply.

Shoes

Closed-toe and closed-heel shoes must be worn.

Outerwear

Any color, appropriately sized; a compliant collared shirt must be worn underneath. Hoods stay off indoors.

Spirit Fridays: dark blue or black hemmed jeans may be worn with a DeSoto ISD spirit shirt or approved collared shirt. Campus administration makes final compliance decisions.

Daily rhythm

Bell schedule.

Breakfast is served in classrooms during SEL Advisory. Scholars move with four-minute passing periods, and the school day ends at 4:20 PM.
